Hiking, Climbing & Walking

The area surrounding our property has a huge scope for hill walking, more challenging mountain hikes and ample opportunities for serious climbing.
This is fantastic walking country with something to suit all levels of ability, be it hiking routes along the dramatic coastal clifftops on the nearby coast or tougher hikes onto the highland plateau - now part of the Cairngorms National Park.
Clachie is located in Glen Clova which is one of the "five Angus glens" with a choice of easy as well as some more strenuous walking routes running close to the cities.
This is fantastic hiking & walking country - the hilltops rise gradually to just over 3000 ft with the Munros Mayar (928m) and Dreish (947m) at the north-west corner overlooking Glendoll. On the north-east side, they reach 896m with Ben Tirran and 876m at Boustie Ley and although not quite as high as the Munros, these routes provide a real taste of the Scottish highlands.
The slopes on either side of Glen Clova are heavily scarred by glacial flow, and have corries (kettle shaped formations) two of which hold Loch Brandy & Loch Warrel - this truly is spectacular country.
At the head of Glen Clova, an ancient track known as Jock's Road leads north-west over to Deeside, and the Capel Mounth track runs north over to Loch Muick below Lochnagar.
The Kilbo Path climbs from Glen Doll over between Driesh and Mayar to neighbouring Glen Prosen.
The upper part of Glen Clova now lies within the Cairngorms National Park - the largest in the UK. New easier walking routes are being promoted by a partnership of organisations supporting the National Park. Eight walks are described in a new leaflet complete with accompanying maps which is available here.
There is also an excellent leaflet regarding walks around Kirrimuir (click here) and around Glen Esk (click here)
Another good resource for Cycling and Walking routes is the Angus Ahead Website
